Hunter S. Thompson was quite the character. He lived in Colorado about the same time I did (although not in the same town). He wrote some interesting stuff. Really interesting. This quote is from him, appearing in his 2003 book Kingdom of Fear: Loathsome Secrets of a Star-Crossed Child in the Final Days of the American Century. It serves as a harsh critique of American foreign policy and national character, reflecting his anger and disillusionment regarding power and greed.
“We have become a Nazi monster in the eyes of the whole world—bullies and bastards who would rather kill than live peacefully. We are not just Whores for power and oil, but killer whores with hate and fear in our hearts.”
